| Book Recommendation of the Month - The World is Flat |
 |
|
The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-
First Century by Thomas L. Friedman
This book is a fabulous and insightful look at the
quickly changing environment that is today's world. It
comes as no surprise to anyone that the world is
changing rapidly - but Mr. Friedman enlightens us as
to how quickly, and to what extent, that change is
occurring. Although few of us will manage projects
that address the broad-reaching change discussed
in "The World is Flat," this change (or "flattening") of
the world provides the backdrop for the requirements
brought to us by our business partners. The book is
well written in a story-telling style so it is a very
entertaining read. You will simply be smarter about
what is happening on Planet Earth when you are
finished with this book.
As this edition of the newsletter focuses on
requirements, it is only fitting that we recommend
"The World is Flat." The trends and nature of
competition in the business environment is
evolving rapidly - the world is indeed "flat" - and
getting flatter by the second. Project managers need
to understand this change to fully grasp the
magnitude of challenges facing our business sponsors.

| This Month's Article: Have You Lost Perspective? |
 |
|
By Bob McGannon, PMP
This month's article provides us with a reflection
about the balance (or lack thereof) in our lives. As
we enter the new year, it is a good time to
reflect on the ways we are using our time and
energies...
In the business world we live in today, one of the
greatest personal challenges we all have is to be
satisfied with the work we get done, and maintain
balance or perspective in our lives. In an attempt to
assist with the evaluation of perspective in your life,
here are a series of questions/statements you can
use to determine if you have become too
one-dimensional.
